Mwangaza Must Go! Meru Residents Chant Awaiting Governor`s Impeachment

On Monday, November 28th, Members of the public flocked Meru County Assembly grounds to give their views on whether Meru Governor Kawira mwangaza was to be impeached or not. 

The members of the Public who expressed their displeasure with eth Governor`s ruling kept on Chanting" Kawira Must Go".

The exercise comes at a time, the Meru Boss went to court on Thursday, November 24, to bar Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from debating an impeachment motion against her.

However, the Meru High Court Judge Thripsisa Cherere certified the matter as urgent and slated a hearing for Monday, November 28, 2022. 

Mwangaza further argued that the motion against her was incompetent as it was issued by the County Assembly deputy clerk, who signed off as the acting clerk, despite the seat lacking an official occupant.

The first-term Governor was accused of appointing her husband, Murega Baichu, to two county jobs.

Baichu was appointed as the patron of Meru Youth Service and the Ambassador to Meru's hustlers.

"His excellency first gentleman Murega of Meru county currently holds the ambassadorial role by the Ministry of Tourism and when you see him there he is an apostle.

"Today we are giving him a job without pay and allowances. He will be a volunteer in the docket of Meru Youth Service," Mwanganza announced.

However, Kawira later defended her move in awarding her husband the two positions in her Couty. She noted that the husband won't be paid a salary nor allowances while discharging the said duties. 

"You agreed to sacrifice yourself and decided to selflessly work without pay and allowances. By accepting my ambassadorial appointment you have proved to be a selfless gentleman. I know you deserve much more than this," Kawira penned a message to her husband Saturday, October 1.
