One soldier was seriously injured and five others sustained slight injuries.

The group, operating under Operation Linda Amani Boni, was on routine patrol between Milimani and Baure in Lamu County when they encountered an IED attack orchestrated by suspected Al Shabaab terrorists, KDF reported to Shahidi News.

The injured soldiers were airlifted to Nairobi.

According to Spokesperson Col Esther Wanjiku, Kenya Defence Force will continue to work with other agencies in maintaining security in the Boni enclave.

Earlier this year, in May, at least four KDF soldiers succumb to a similar incident.

The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, which has been under attack by terrorists in the past months.
