According to the National Police Service, the raids were carried out Wednesday evening along the Mathare River by officers drawn from Starehe Sub-County under the command of Starehe Sub-County Police Commander William Sirengo and assisted by OCS Mathare Police Station.

According to police, the areas had become a hub of drug peddling, drug abuse, and illegal gambling, and the raid was intended to dismantle these dens, which had become a nuisance in the neighborhoods.

The extent of the notoriety in the dens was evident as drugs were recovered, including one kilogram of heroin, five kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, and illicit brew.

The dens also contained needles, alcohol pads, a dagger, and NSP Kits, as well as a gambling machine.
