Belgium is expected to assess De Bruyne’s ankle injury today as they are hopeful that their midfielder star will be available for the rest of the European Championship matches.

De Bruyne was challenged from behind by Portugal player Joao Palhinha minutes before halftime in a game that saw numerous fouls flare-ups and questionable tackling.

The unfortunate news comes on a day when the City man is celebrating his 30th birthday.

Belgium Captain Eden Hazard’s fitness is also in question after the player appeared to pull his hamstring in the closing stages of the game.

According to Belgium national team coach Roberto Martinez, the conditions of De Bruyne and Hazard are yet to assess in order to know their conditions.
