World football governing body FIFA has said the 2023 Women’s World Cup which is to be held in two host nations of Australia and New Zealand to begin on July 20 – August 20, 2023

In an announcement made on Thursday, the opening game of the tournament will be held in New Zealand’s Auckland Eden Park, whereas the final one to be hosted at Sydney Stadium in Australia.

The tournament which will host 32 teams for the first time will have Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth to be other cities to host games in Australia. New Zealand’s hosts will be cities of Dunedin, Hamilton and Wellington.

Semi finals games to be held in Australia and New Zealand respectively.

In the last tournament which was held in France in 2019, the champions were United States of America – who are eyeing their fifth trophy. The runners up were Japan, while England and Germany followed in third and fourth respectively.

United States has worn most titles followed by Germany with two. The tournament has been worn by four nations. They include Germany, Japan, USA and Norway. Six countries have hosted the tournament, with China and USA hosting it twice. Sweden, Canada, France and Germany have each hosted once.

The full schedule for the 2023 Women’s World Cup to be announced later this year.

Meanwhile, the new Inter-Confederation play-offs, will be held in February 17-23, 2023. This will help in selecting the last three teams to qualify for the World C

up.
