IPOA Takes Over Kayole Murder Case

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority on Thursday 19th August decided to take over the  Kayole Murder case of a 38-year-old Bodaboda rider who was allegedly shot dead by the police after he was arrested for Violating the Curfew dawn enforcement laws.

The incident sparked a day of protests in Nairobi's Kayole estate, where locals were outraged by police brutality. The rider, John Kiiru, was apprehended on the night of August 18th, according to reports.

“IPOA, today (Wednesday) received information on the death of a man at Tushauriane area of Kayole, Nairobi. Pursuant to Section 25 of IPOA Act which requires that deaths that result from police action or are caused by members of the National Police Service while on duty be investigated, the Authority launched investigations into the death today,” IPOA’s Chairperson, Anne Makori, stated in a statement.

The investigation will focus on whether John died as a result of injuries allegedly inflicted by police officers enforcing the curfew orders.

IPOA`S Chairperson Makori also added that If the cops involved are found guilty then proper actions will be taken. She further stated that IPOA is dedicated to being neutral, independent, and fair.

Jon was arrested by the police as he was on his way home and as the brawl occurred, the motorcyclist narrowly escaped arrest but was apprehended by cops shortly after.
