Alvin Linus Chivondo was found guilty of two charges of stealing and handling stolen goods before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.

On April 10, 2022, at Naivas Supermarket on Development House, Moi Avenue in Nairobi, he took five kilograms of Daawat long-grain rice, 500 grams of American gourmet honey, and 500 grams of Fahari ya Kenya tea leaves, according to the first count.

He allegedly stole five liters of Fresh Fry cooking oil and two kilograms of Kabras Sugar, total worth Sh3,165 and belonging to Naivas Kenya Limited, according to the charge document.

According to the facts read in court, Chivondo was caught stealing goods from the same supermarket on April 3, 2022.

He was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station, where the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) pardoned him.

Chivondo asked the court for forgiveness and swore not to do it again. He claimed that he was motivated by hunger after losing his job. He didn't say what job he lost, but he did say he has a family and a jobless single father who is reliant on him.

During the first theft, Chivondo recounted, a good samaritan he met earlier at the grocery helped him out by paying the fee.

In her ruling, Kagendo stated that the accused was not truthful with his words and that he was a perpetual thief who had previously been arrested at the same supermarket for the same offense and had been forgiven by the OCS.
