Man Suspected of Killing His Mother & Setting Her on Fire Arrested
A 27-year-old man, Jeff Onyango Nyawada is being held by Kisumu police after he was reported to have killed his mother at Migingo village, Kadibo Sub-County, and set her ablaze after drenching her with paraffin.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Roselyn Nyawada, the Deputy Principal of Migingo Girls High School, was discovered dead inside her house in the teachers' quarter.
The boy who is a drug addict ended the life of his mother and we did not know until on Sunday when one of the teachers went to check on her in the house,” a source reported.
The suspect, according to police, is mentally unstable and a drug addict who has been causing havoc in their home.
“Neighbors did not hear the commotion in the house because it was raining heavily, the body was found inside the bathroom of the house burnt,” an officer narrated.
The officer also stated that the eldest son, Stephen Allan Nyawada attempted to call the mother but was unable to reach her and decided to enlist the help of a neighbor to contact her.

The police recovered paraffin in a mug from the scene and noticed that the bathroom walls were blackened with smudge soot. A kitchen knife and a lantern lamp with an open knob were also discovered near the woman's body. The recovered items have been displayed as an exhibit.
The body of the deceased has since been moved to a morgue within the county pending an autopsy.
