Karani stated that he will appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) this morning through his lawyer to clear his name.

During an interview with an online media house in Kenya, Karani stated that he was not aware that he was being searched for with the DCI. He also revealed that he was in Nakuru carrying out his daily activities.

‘I was in Nakuru when I learnt that I had been declared as the most dangerous and armed criminal by the DCI... Someone recognized me and told me that police were looking for me. Since then my life has been hell. I have not known peace,’’ Karani revealed.

Karani admits to knowing Mugota, having met him in 2018 at the wedding of a mutual friend in Meru.

Karani claims that the last time he saw the deceased was last year on Kenyatta Road in Kiambu when he ran into Mugota at a car wash.

‘I knew him but I had never had his contact. I got to know him in 2018 during a wedding ceremony in Meru. A friend of mine introduced me to Mugota. After the wedding, we used the same vehicle back to Nairobi. We never exchanged contacts. At the time of his murder, I was in Nakuru when I heard that he has been killed. I learnt his death through  the media.’’ Karani stated.

Karani claims that they have never done business with Mr. Mugota and that he is innocent and played no role in the deceased's death.

His lawyer, Samuel Thuku, stated that his client is innocent and that the DCI is attempting to bring false charges against him.

Karani stated that he chose to be accompanied by his lawyer to DCI headquarters this morning because he was afraid that police would spray him with bullets and later plant weapons on him.

On Friday 20, the DCI declared Karani a wanted man in connection with the murder and asked the public to share any information that could lead to his arrest.

Karani is also wanted for allegedly possessing a weapon that was allegedly stolen from a police officer at a popular Mombasa restaurant two years ago.

He was suspected of fleeing to a neighboring country after the murder of his master, Mugota.

According to him, he has been residing in Nakuru for a while even when the incident occurred.

Detectives reported that they last traced Karani's phone signals inside Burnt Forest in Uasin Gishu County. They also claimed Karani was a collaborator with the late Mugota, who is from neighboring Embu County.

They suspected Karani was tipped off to flee by rogue police officers who were assisting the two in their multi-million shilling syndicate.
