Speaking after joining the party, Bahati has indicated that he is ready to vie for the position under the jubilee party. He has also said that he is confident that he will win the party primaries.

“I was born and raised in Mathare. Throughout my nearly-30 years, Mathare has never had a native of the constituency as its representative to the National Assembly. All MPs, who won the Mathare parliamentary seat, have been outsiders, born and raised elsewhere,” the musician said.

He further stated that he understood the problems of the people of Mathare and therefore he would deliver services to the people efficiently.

“It’s high time Mathare was represented by someone who understands its problems, including those historical in nature,” Bahati added.

Bahati further disclosed that he would support Raila Odinga for his presidential bid adding that he will campaign for Odinga in Mathare to ensure that he clings into power after the August polls.

The former gospel artist further disclosed that he has been doing underground campaigns in the area and he was confident of winning.

The Mathare parliamentary seat is currently held by Anthony Aluoch under the Orange Democracy Movement party ticket.
