A police officer in Machakos county was on Monday accused of breaking into an OCS office and allegedly stealing Sh71,000.

The accused, Paul Chege Lore was taken into custody at the Masii police station in the Machakos County sub-county after being apprehended by his coworkers for allegedly committing the crime.

The OCS office was allegedly broken into on August 25, 2022, by Paul Chege Lore of the Masii police station, who allegedly stole Sh 71,000.

According to the police, two spent cartridges and a tear gas canister were also reportedly discovered on the officer.

Otindo commanded the prosecution to give copies of witness statements to the accused.

According to the report, the suspect broke into the OCS office at the Masii police station while working at the report office at around 7:00 AM. There, he broke the OCS table drawers and accessed a cash bail book containing Sh71,000.

Lore appeared before Machakos Law Court's chief magistrate Mary Otindo and was charged with stealing from the police station.

He was released on Sh100,000 cash bail after entering a not guilty plea to the charges.

His case will be mentioned on September 15, 2022.
