Speaking to the media after the announcement of the KCPE results, Amelia told reporters that she turned to education as a source of consolation for her.

Amelia has been at the correctional facility since January of 2021 after her arrest and charges against the death of her mother pressed against her.

According to Jacobeth, her decision to re-sit the examinations was  reached in order to be able to reconnect with her family which she hasn’t seen since her arrest. She had done her first KCPE examination in 2007 and she is a former form three dropout at Eregi Girls' Secondary school.

I have been in Kakamega Prison remand since January last year. No close family member has visited me since then, it hurt my mental health and I found solace in education.”  Jacobeth said in an interview with the standard.

According to the prison officials, her performance was a great achievement bearing in mind that most of the inmates usually score an average of 250 marks.

Being behind bars is not the end of the world. All that one needs is to be disciplined and remain focused in life. I decided to spend part of my time studying. I made a decision to prepare for the KCPE exam and I’m happy to have scored good marks.” Jacobeth added.

She is also determined to use any chance that she has to ensure that she gets into greater heights in education
