According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Simon Sanga, a Tanzanian national, and a companion were the victims of the attack where they overpowered the robbers.

The duo found the place closed and while Sanga was confirming so, three robbers equipped with a homemade gun approached him and demanded that he hand over his valuables to them.

According to the DCI, the three were on a motorbike, one rider and two passengers forced Sanga to empty his pockets and gave the thug his mobile phones, ATM cards, car keys, and Ksh27,000 in cash.

The other two thugs were waiting for their colleague and were planning to flee after the crime was committed but Sanga managed to snatch the firearm from the thug.

"Sanga, who had never come across a firearm, managed to squeeze one spirited shot at the thugs, as the motorbike got away from the scene, leaving a thick cloud of dust," added the statement.

DCI Kayole Police Station detectives and officers went to the location and found one spent 9mm caliber cartridge and a jersey that Sanga had used to strip the suspect as he fled.

The police have launched a manhunt for the gangsters after collecting the victim’s gun.
