Inside the Bibi Fatima mosque, photos show damaged windows, people on the ground, and other attendees attempting to assist.

However, the reason for the explosion is unknown as it is suspected to be a suicide bomber.

One witness told AFP that he heard three blasts: one at the front door, another near the washrooms, and a third near the altar.

The mosque was packed at the time for Friday prayers, which are the busiest of the week. According to an AFP journalist, at least 15 ambulances were dispatched to the area. According to Reuters, Taliban special forces have sealed the spot and have requested residents to donate blood to treat the casualties.

This attack comes barely a week after a similar one was carried out by a suicide attacker Last Friday on a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in the northern city of Kunduz which left at least 50 people lifeless.

IS-K  confirmed the incident stating that it carried out the attack, which was the deadliest since US forces left at the end of August.
