Balala: Cherera And 3 Other IEBC Commissioners Should be Brought to Book

Tourism CS Najib Balala now says that IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and the three commissioners who disowned the outcome of the August 9th presidential election should be brought to book for what he terms 'disturbing the country's peace'.

Balala: Cherera And 3 Other IEBC Commissioners Should be Brought to Book

Balala made the comments on his Twitter account on Friday when he replied to a tweet by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen which implored President-elect William Ruto to ensure that all principal secretaries (PS) that will serve under him do not to engage in toxic politics.

"Impunity must be dealt with otherwise it will return to haunt us.....the likes of team Cherera must be brought to book," said Balala.

He clarified that he does not hold any grudges against Cherara and IEBC commissioners Irene Masit, Justus Nyang'anya, and Francis Wanderi, noting that they should be held accountable for their actions since it is a matter of great public interest.

"It is not vengeance but order in the public interest," he said.

On August 15, 2022, the four commissioners claimed that the last phase of the electoral process. which is the verification of results was not transparent.

“We have conducted the 2022 General Election in the most effective and efficient manner. We have ensured that we have improved the standards and consistently communicated what is happening. We have partnered with all stakeholders and we say it for a fact that as a commission we have done a good job but some things need to be put out there,” Cherera told members of the Press then.

“As you can see, the four of us we are here and not at Bomas where the result is going to be announced because of the opaque nature of how this phase has been handled. We, therefore, cannot take ownership on the result that is going to be announced."
