A fire broke out at Kisumu Boys High School in Kisumu county on Saturday, August 20, in the morning hours around 9 am.

The fire is reported to have originated in one of the dormitories and spread to other classrooms leading to the destruction of property of unknown value.

Several buildings of the school reportedly caught fire and nearly five of the buildings where the majority of which were classrooms.

Additionally, it was said that one dormitory caught fire during the operation before it could be put out.

Students were relocated to a safer spot as the police and firefighters worked on putting out the fire.

There have been no reports of casualties or injuries related to the morning fire incident and the origin of the fire is yet to be established.

Administrators urged the students to evacuate their personal things from the dorms as a precaution since the fire was spreading to other buildings.

Officials from the Kisumu County Fire Department, police, and volunteer medical staff from nearby hospitals organized the rescue effort.

According to Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commandant Jactone Mango, investigations are ongoing and he is confident they will uncover the fire's origin.

The fire incident comes two days after school resumed following a two-week election break.
