Parents Concerned Over High Teenage Pregnancies In Kiambu
Kiambu county has been on the spot recently due to the high rate of teenage pregnancies among young girls.

According to the Kenya Data and Health Survey 2021, the majority of girls visiting prenatal clinics in the region are between the ages of 10 and 14.
According to the research, 378 young girls visited prenatal clinics between January 2022 and May 2022.
Local officials, such as Kiambu County Director of Gender Olympia Karimi, have expressed their displeasure with the frightening figures, stating that they are presently working with the county government to alert communities as part of severe steps to help control the problem.
According to the latest Global Childhood statistics, Kenya has the third-highest rate of teen pregnancy, with 82 births per 1,000 births.
Karimi told KNA that they are now hosting sensitization meetings through the Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) working committees, despite the fact that they lack financial support to fully execute the assignment.
“We lack financial support to mobilize parents and communities to attend sensitization meetings. We, therefore, ask partners to join in,” Karimi said.
Residents in the vicinity have expressed their concern with the situation and have demanded that the authorities take quick action.
“It is traumatizing as a parent to see your baby having a baby, my daughter got pregnant when she was 13 years after her KCPE It was not easy for everyone in the family but I accepted as a parent and fully supported her. She enrolled in a day school so that she can fully breastfeed the child and I took care of the baby when she was learning,” narrated one mother.
