The two were a part of a gang of five people who are accused of robbing residences in Njukiri Village on Thursday night, July 14.

According to police, three of the alleged gang members managed to flee after being shot.

Residents of Njukiri said that on Thursday night, a group of five guys carrying firearms went from house to house taking people of their possessions, including gas cylinders.

The suspects, according to the locals, rode around in a white Toyota Fielder.

On Friday, July 15, at around two in the morning, police officers cornered the suspects, which led to a shooting between them and the police.

Four of the alleged thieves allegedly opened fire at police officers in the early hours of Friday when they were asked to surrender, according to Julius Kyumbure, the commander of the Embu West Sub-County Police.

The suspects, according to Kyumbure, were riding in a white Toyota Fielder when the shooting began.

“They managed to speed off into a thicket. We later found two of them dead in the car, with three of their accomplices missing,” said Kyumbure.

Police found many household things, clothing, shoes, and gas cylinders inside the Toyota Fielder.

The bodies of the shot robbery suspects were taken to the morgue at Embu Level Five Hospital.
