Speaking at an interview at a local station, Manyora has said that the Supreme Court ruling on the matter has provided a clear way that Kenya can follow in terms of making any amendments to the constitution.

I think like Uhuru said, one day BBI will be back. Raila said it is on half time. I think that is the situation now. It has clarified in a way how the process can be done in future” Manyora said.

The Supreme court had yesterday issued a ruling that saw the Building Bridges Initiative being termed as unconstitutional.

Manyora added that the supreme court did not have apprehension towards the proposed amendments to the constitution but rather looked at how Kenya was going about the process, without following stipulations by the constitution.

BBI was okay. This referendum can go on. I think the whole thing is about whether or not Kenya can amend the Constitution and that has been addressed well and clearly during the day. That, Yes, indeed contrary to the thinking and opinion of the High Court and the Court of Appeal, Kenyans can now amend their Constitution. That was the only question and it has been answered,”

Addressing the issue of basic structure, Manyora said that the issue will have to be toned down f the process is to be implemented in the future.

The basic structure is all there was to discuss in the Supreme Court and I liked the way Chief Justice Martha Koome presented it so clearly in a simple, straightforward manner in which even a primary school would follow, and that is how I would like going forward.  When we have a matter to resolve let us do so in a very simple way,”

Manyora was a key supporter of the BBI process.
