Sewage Rains On Nairobi Vehicles In Traffic Jam (VIDEO)

This was occasioned by a sewage pipe which burst along the busy road.

Nairobi motorists using Waiyaki Way on Wednesday, March 17 received a rude shock after their vehicles were sprayed with sewage in the middle of a traffic jam along the busy road.

This was occasioned by a sewage pipe which burst along the busy road.

The incident occurred near the Sodom area near the Kangemi Bridge where road works are ongoing.

The burst pipe spilled a mixture of sewage and sand onto the vehicles on both sides of the road.

This resulted in a massive traffic jam, with motorists reluctant to drive through the murky water on the busy highway.

Drivers complained of having zero visibility as they drove through the section with caution, shutting their windows to avoid the water from entering the vehicles.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on February 9, 2021, warned that those using the route to use the diversion on the Kangemi Bridge, which will disrupt the flow of traffic.

"This is to notify you that a diversion has been done on the left-hand side (LHS) of  Kangemi Bridge next to Total Petrol Station for a distance of about 100 meters to serve traffic headed towards the Nakuru side," the notice read in part.

Traffic headed to Nairobi was diverted to the existing LHS off the main carriageway.

The expansion of the busy highway involved the demolition of the bridge that has stood for years, however, it will be rebuilt once the expansion is complete. It is running concurrently with the construction of the Nairobi Expressway which has caused major traffic disruptions and delays for motorists using the route.
