According to police reports, the fire broke out at midnight when the students were asleep forcing some to struggle for their escape.

However, Laikipia County Commissioner confirming the fatal incident stated that the cause if eth the fire is yet to be identified.

“Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation are on the ground. Let us not speculate on what transpired,” Kanyiri said.

Three weeks before the fire, students had staged demonstrations in the school, trashing goods of unknown value.

Kanyiri expressed his condolences to the departed family while also cautioning students against arson and other disruptive actions.

He added that if pupils are proven guilty, authorities will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute them.

“Schools are public properties. Let us not hide by saying the fire was caused by electric fault without proper investigations having been completed,” Kanyiri said.
