The US indicated in a statement dated April 21 that Abu Ubaidah, an Al Shabaab senior, organized several of the assaults in the East African region.

The US administration further alleged that many Kenyans died as a result of his organized attacks.

"Abu Ubaidah, also known as Ahmed Diriye, is the leader of the Al Shabaab (AS) terrorist group. Under his leadership, AS terrorists have conducted attacks in Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Djibouti that have resulted in the death of hundreds of individuals.

"Abu Ubaidah serves as the leader of Al Shabaab - a position he has occupied since the death of former Al Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane. Abu Ubaidah was part of Godane’s inner circle at the time of Godane’s death," read the statement in part.

Additionally, the US administration offered contacts for Kenyans to provide information on the terrorist leader's whereabouts.

"If you have information about him, text us at +1-202-702-7843 over Signal, Telegram, or WhatsApp, or contact us on our Tor-based tip line. You could be eligible to receive a reward.”

"It is a crime to knowingly provide, or attempt or conspire to provide, material support or resources to Al Shabaab," continued the statement.
