Blow for impeached Governor Mike Sonko after a petition challenging his impeachment by Nairobi County Assembly which was later adopted by the Senate was shot down by High Court on June 24.

BREAKING: The High Court Upholds Governor Ann Kananu’s Appointment

According to the ruling issued by the High Court, vetting and swearing-in of Ann Kananu as Nairobi Deputy Governor was within the law.

The three-judge bench that issued the ruling was presided over by Justice Said Chitembwe and assisted by Justices Wilfrida Okwany and Weldon Korir.

The court said that before his impeachment, Sonko had voluntarily nominated Kananu as a Deputy Governor and upon the nomination, his directive ended there.

"We find no error in the county assembly vetting Kananu," Okwany said.

According to the court, there was proper public participation in Kananu's vetting dismissing the arguments by Sonko that there was no public participation.

"The county assembly followed the requirements of public participation in vetting Kananu," Okwany said.
