Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates his winner against Villareal late last night

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE appearance record in style as his 95th min winner ensured Manchester United a hard fought 2-1 victory over Spanish side Villareal in the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE group stage late last night at Old Trafford

The visitor's silenced the OT when Arnaut Tanjuma began terrorising the defence early on in the game. Portuguese Full back Diogo Dalot had a night to forget as he struggled to silence the Dutchman specifically in air duels as his air prowess was showcased for all to see.

Tanjuma was a thorn in United's flesh as he forced a save off De Gea after releasing a curl effort that was tipped over by the United shot stopper. Mins later he whipped in a delightful cross for Paco Alcacèr and the Dortmund old boy forced off a save from De Gea. Alcacèr would get another chance after a Raphael Varane blunder but he missed the target.

Ole Gunnars men struggled for clear cut chances and their best effort came when Paul Pogba released a lofted ball towards Mason Greenwood but the ball was met by Alberto Moreno as he tipped the ball past incoming Gerònimo Rulli wide off the post.

United didn't seem to learn from their previous shortcomings and Villareal took the lead Danjuma once again got behind Dalot and squared it off to Alcacèr who poked it past David De Gea.

United levelled mins later when Bruno Fernandes lofted a Free kick to the edge of the area and Alex Telles marked his first United goal in pizzazz with a low bottomed volley.

Ronaldo does what he does best and he came through in the 90+5 min to win it for the Red Devils after a Jesse Lingard rebound following Edinson Cavani display of pure athleticism and desire. The ball felk to Portugal Captain and he didn't place a foot wrong putting the ball past Rulli and sending United fans into a frenzy as they celebrated their hearts out.
