Kenya has announced the widespread system failure that has affected most consumers but has also promised to resolve the issue.

Recently, several Kenya Power consumers have experienced delay in purchasing tokens, with some spending the entire night without Power after purchase. The company had previously experienced delay in issuance of prepaid tokens, in April 2021. This caused an uproar both online and off by consumers. Kenya Power has however announced that their technical team is currently resolving the system anomaly; that has prevented prepaid token generation and hindered their access to contact centre via 97771. The company also explained that the purchase delay was caused by a surge in transactions affecting all buyers using banks, agents, apps and mobile transaction money. 

Both postpaid and prepaid customers have been urged to check their latest purchase via Power App or dialing the USSD code *977#
