Kenyans Decry to KPLC on the High Token Tax Charges
In a thread that has since gone viral, several Kenyans have come out to share screenshots of the token tax charges imposed on them by Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

In one of the screenshots shared online, one of the KPLC users revealed that he had purchased a token of Kshs. 2,000 which reflected a total of 76.08 units. The token amount from the amount he paid was 958.63.
This revealed that the client had been charged a total of Kshs. 1,041.37. This is among the many Kenyans who have come out to share their complaints with the KPLC firm.
The KPLC firm is yet to respond to the complaints raised by many Kenyans across the country.
In December 2022, KPLC stated that fuel prices had increased, prompting them to have their prices hiked. It added that the prices were also affected by the various economic factors that had changed over time.
"The regulator has adjusted the fuel cost and inflation components of the bill, hence the increase," part of the statement read.
Here are some reactions made by Kenyans about the issue.
