The Kenyan government has no officials in Afghanistan and according to Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Amb. Macharia Kamau, who claimed on Monday, August 16 that there are Kenyans working for international organizations, including security corporations.

“Firstly, Kenya has neither diplomatic presence nor accreditation to Afghanistan. Secondly, the country has been unstable for a long while and we do not expect Kenyans to have gone to this country.”

Kamau also added that Nairobi had contacted the agency's head offices in Rome regarding evacuation plans.

"We did a letter to IDLO country office and their headquarters in Rome. We are following up to find out if there are known Kenyans stranded there through the High Commission in Pakistan."

Kenya does not have an embassy in Afghanistan or even diplomatic recognition. The High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, is Nairobi's closest diplomatic representation. However, even the High Commissioner is not accredited to Kabul, implying that Kenya will rely on third parties to acquire information about its citizens on the ground.
