Kalonzo had been pushing Kibwana and other leaders from the larger Lower Eastern out of Azimio's organizations, according to a statement by Kibwana dated Wednesday, April 20.

The second-term governor, resigning to fate, declared that he had endured enough humiliation and had no choice but to submit. Kibwana also wished the Azimio presidential candidate well in the upcoming elections on August 9.

“It is proving impossible to work with Kalonzo Musyoka in Azimio in Ukambani. After he joined us, he has wanted especially me out of all Azimio structures. I have no choice but to be at peace with this sad reality. History will ultimately judge all of us. May it be kind," Kibwana stated.

Together with his Machakos counterpart, Alfred Mutua, and Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, the Muungano party leader was among the first to join Azimio.

While forming the Mwanzo Mpya faction within the coalition, the three accused the former Vice President of causing friction within the coalition. They threatened to break their alliance with the coalition unless some of their demands were granted at the time.

The faction agreed to withdraw their demands after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga intervened, and Azimio structures were expanded to accommodate some of them.

As a result, the Wiper party wrote to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, requesting that the coalition's registration be terminated due to modifications in the coalition paperwork.

Kalonzo's supporters have accused the three governors of undermining the former vice president inside the region and the coalition.
