Most Students Scored D- in the Just Announced KCSE 2021 Results.

While a number of lesser-known schools produced impressive results, the majority of students fell short of the university entrance grade of C+.

The majority of the candidates received grades that were lower than the university cutoff points, with D- (minus) being the most common. A total of 187,264 candidates received a D-, making it the grade with the most students in the 2021 class.

Only 1,138 candidates received an A in the 2021 KCSE exam, with 349 females and 789 males. This represents 0.14 percent of all candidates, an increase from 0.12 percent in 2020.

The number of candidates with a minimum university grade of C+ or higher rose from 143,140 in 2020 to 145,145 in 2021. This adds 2,005 new students to the University's admissions list for 2021.

With a significant 39.27 percent of candidates set to enroll in various diploma and certificate courses, the KCSE 2021 results report recommended investing more in TVET institutions.

Furthermore, Education Secretary George Magoha urged Kenyans to reject the "university admission as a success culture."

Kenyans expected significant improvement in the 2021 KCSE, but subject improvement analysis showed a decline.

"In the 2021 KCSE examination, 11 subjects recorded a significant improvement in performance, compared to 19 subjects that recorded a significant improvement in performance in 2020," Magoha stated.

"People have this idea that only students from national schools excel, which is true given the high levels of discipline, but that can be adopted by the sub-county schools and perform well," Magoha stated.
