Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and Jubilee nominated Senator Millicent Omanga are among 10 MPs who risk losing their seats following recent action by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

In a press conference on Saturday, March 6, NCIC Chairman Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia revealed that the commission had summoned the legislators linked to violence during recent by-elections.

The other leaders summoned include Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, and MPs Faizal Bader (Msambeni), Hon. Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon), Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Charles Were (Kasipul), as well as Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini).

"These summons do not just indicate our intention to investigate and prosecute but rather also indicate the plan of the Commission to stop the unethical people from occupying office," he stated.

Rev Kobia added that the commission had vowed that leaders who had been involved in inciting violence during the elections would face the full force of the law.

"We will ensure the purveyors of hate and ethnic contempt are in jail, and as they wait to go to jail, we will put them out of the leadership of this country and ensure they never run again in this country," he declared.

He further noted that it was unacceptable for Kenyans to be subjected to abuse, allegations of voter bribery, violence, and an environment full of tension which was a carbon-copy of the period just before the 2007 elections.

The commission further hit out at the assault of Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir by police in Nakuru and urged the force's Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to take necessary action on the officers involved.

The MP was caught in the middle of harassment, intimidation, and voter bribery which was reported in some parts of the country, as voters cast their ballots in seven electoral areas.

During an encounter with police, Korir was seen kicking a teargas canister that had been lodged in his direction.

His car was smashed in the tussle as a section of journalists suffered slight injuries in the incident.

Around the same time, former Sports CS Rashid Echesa was arrested after he was caught on camera slapping an IEBC official in the Matungu by-election.

He was on Saturday, March 6 transferred to Nairobi for interrogation by DCI detectives.
