Supreme Court Dismisses Sonko’s Appeal Case Stopping Kananu’s swearing-in

Nairobi Ex-Governor Mike Sonko has been dealt a blow after the Supreme Court on Monday struck out an appeal case he filed seeking to stop Anne Kananu from being sworn in as Nairobi County Governor.

The ruling by the apex court means that Kananu can now be sworn in as the County boss.

“The court, we conclude lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application,” reads part of the ruling.

Supreme Court judges noted that with the absence of a judgment of the court of appeal the application by Sonko is premature and does not meet the threshold of the Constitution.

Sonko wanted the Supreme Court to prohibit the swearing-in of Kananu as Nairobi Governor pending a hearing and determination of his appeal.

Last month, the appellate court dismissed Sonko's appeal of the High Court decision Okaying his removal from office in December 2020 forcing him to move to the Supreme Court.
