Wa Kabari died while receiving treatment at the Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret town.

While confirming his death, the Kikuyu Council of Elders Organizing Secretary Kaguru wa Ndung’u said the late leader who also doubled up as the council’s chairperson had been hospitalized with a stroke.

In a media briefing, Kaguru said the Agikuyu community had lost a great leader.

“He had a stroke and had been hospitalized for the past one month,” he told journalists in a hotel in Eldoret town.

Kamunu wa Kabari was elected the Agikuyu Community spokesperson and crowned in a private ceremony held in December 2016.

He has been hailed as a leader who was committed to unifying not only the Agikuyu community but also other communities that were residing in Uasin Gishu.

“Kamunu wa Kabari spoke on behalf of the community on a number of issues including economic, social, political and also cultural,” said the council’s Organizing Secretary.

Similar sentiments were shared by the Kikuyu Council of Elders Uasin Gishu chapter Vice-chairman Mzee Joseph Gatonye who said Wa Kabari was instrumental in helping the youths, advising them on the right direction they needed to follow.

“Many youths in this county now know the importance of unity thanks to Kamunu, he has also educated them about Agikuyu culture,” Gatonye said.

Agikuyu elders are expected to meet later and set up a burial committee.

A fundraiser for offsetting medical bill totaling over Ksh4.5 million is set to be held October 10, 2021, at Yamumbi PCEA, a home church where Kamunu wa Kabari has been worshiping.

The General Secretary of the council in Uasin Gishu David Muchiri Ng’ang’a further said despite Kamunu Wa Kabari’s death, there is no leadership vacant in the Agikuyu community.

“For now there is no vacuum in that office because he has able leadership that will keep transacting council business but as per the Kikuyu community tradition, at the appropriate time, his position will be filled just as Kamunu was elected,” Muchiri said.
