VIDEO: DP Ruto Defies Protocol by Inviting Martha Karua to Speak

Speaking during the National Prayer Day in Safari Park today, Deputy President William Ruto has today broken the protocol and requested Raila's running mate, Martha Karua to speak just before President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke.

In his speech, DP William Ruto requested the crowd to allow him to break the protocol.

Ruto stated that he would have invited former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to speak to the attendees, noting that Karua was present to represent him.

Traditionally, the Deputy President is in charge of inviting the President to speak as the final speaker, but Ruto strategically invited Karua in what can be seen as a clever political move.

In the event, Uhuru and Ruto also broke the tradition by sitting at separate tables during the event.

Traditionally, the President sits at a table with the Vice President, the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, or the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament.

They have always shared the table with the two Parliament Speakers since their election in 2013.

"Even at the National Prayer Breakfast President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto cannot share the same table. The two leaders should find time and explain to the nation what happened to their political love," read a tweet.

The two's refusal to share a table clearly indicated how badly their relationship has deteriorated, with those close to the couple claiming they do not see eye-to-eye.

During the fallout between the two leaders, religious leaders called for reconciliation, stating that the unity of leaders was critical as the country entered the electioneering period.

Kenyans have come out to question the relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta ann his Deputy, William Ruto.
