The statement was issued by the Namibia Rugby Union president Corrie Mensah after the Namibian government banned contact sports due to the Covid 19 cases in the country.

“The NRU regretfully had to notify Rugby Africa that we, under the prevailing conditions, unfortunately, have to withdraw our under 20 teams from the Barthes Trophy competition. It is logic (sic) for the mere reason that the team will not be able to train and prepare properly,” he said.

The tournament was to take place from June 24th to July 4th.

The country also requested Rugby Africa to postpone the senior Africa Gold Cup Group A tournament that they are supposed to hold from July to November.
