According to the Provincial government spokesman Mohammad Hanif, the explosive device was planted inside the mosque, but luckily there were no fatalities reported.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the blast in an Afghan province where militants belonging to the Islamic State's regional affiliate, Islamic State-Khorasan Province, carry out bombings and shootings against Taliban forces and civilians on a daily basis.

Since the Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan in mid-August, IS-Khorasan has claimed responsibility for scores of strikes in various parts of the nation, including the capital, Kabul. Hundreds of people have been killed or injured as a result of the violence, the majority of whom are members of the minority Shi'ite community.

The attack comes at a time the Taliban launched an operation against alleged IS-Khorasan hideouts in order to combat the terrorist threat.

A spokesman for the Taliban intelligence agency told reporters in Kabul on Wednesday that their counterterrorism effort has collected around 600 IS-Khorasan terrorists, including important commanders, and killed nearly 40 others.

On October 15th, 2021, another explosion ripped through a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in Kandahar, Afghanistan, killing at least 16 people and injuring 32 more.
