Boda-Boda Riders Will Be Required to Take Third Party Policy for Their Passengers.

The new directives by the government dictate that Boda-boda operators will be required to take a third-party policy to cover their passengers.

Boda-Boda Riders Will Be Required to Take Third Party Policy for Their Passengers.

This is according to the proposals by the National Treasury Cs Ukuru Yatani who said that the move by government will help to address the rise in accidents that are caused by riders in the boda-boda sector.

CS Yatani claims that the industry has developed at an exponential rate over the years and is well equipped to meet the demands and welfare of passengers in the event of fatalities, injuries, or other damages.

In the recent times, motorcycles and three-wheelers have increasingly been engaged in commercial fair paying passengers business,” Yatani explained.

Unfortunately, the number of accidents in this category has been on the rise yet the owners of motorcycles do not have an insurance cover to cater for any treatment in case of injuries or compensation in the case of death or any damage caused by accidents involving motorcycles.” The CS added.

The CS added that it was because of the above reasons that the government proposed that motorcycles and tuk-tuk operators will have to nsure their passengers.

"In this respect, I propose to amend the insurance regulation to require motorcycles and three-wheelers used by fair paying passengers to require insurance for their passengers,” Yatani added.

The CS spoke during the 2022/2023 national budget at the National assembly yesterday.
