The DP found himself in trouble after he stated that the populous nation has no cows and imports its milk from European and Asian countries.

Speaking to dairy producers in Nyeri county, he vowed that his administration would make sure that the Democratic Republic of Congo's dairy demand is met.

Ruto further claimed in a statement issued by his Communications Director, Hussein Mohammed, that he is a champion of economic empowerment and that he has consistently demonstrated to Kenyan farmers the worldwide market connectivity prospects.

The statement went on to say that the DP's remark was casual and that he was merely highlighting UDA's strategy to boost productivity in the dairy and other agricultural sectors.

"Today he has clarified as follows (My speech was informal, and my use of certain effects was purely to underscore the magnitude of the opportunity and urgency of the moment to a local audience. It was not intended to be disrespectful in any way)," the statement read in part.

"I regret any misunderstanding that may have arisen on account of my speech, and take this opportunity to assure the government and people of the DRC of my profound admiration and high regard," the statement further quoted DP Ruto.

However his apology comes at time, the Congolese Senator Francine Muyumba Nkanga  took to her Twitter handle to critisize DP`s remarks terming them as adisappointment and undiplomatic.

“Mr Vice President William Ruto, this is really unacceptable, with all due respect there is a need to withdraw this statement If DRC did not have a single cow how could Kenya sign economic deals with DRC, Equity Bank is currently making money in Congo, this is an insult," Muyumba tweeted.

“We are friends to Kenya, a candidate running for the highest office of the Country William Ruto need to be diplomatically conscience as KENYA need to strengthen economic ties in the region for Kenya’s internal Economic growth. Kenya Airway is now flying in some of our big cities.”
