Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to the Science, Technology, and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

JOBS: Laboratory Technologist (1 Position) at Kenya Medical Research - KEMRI

Laboratory Technologist (1 Position) K MR 7 Vacancy No. FN-005-02-2022

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure smooth workflow and timely, accurate testing information
  2. Diagnose laboratory instrument malfunctions, and ensure preventive and corrective
  3. maintenance/ repairs and maintain records of actions
  4. Develop and adhere to quality control and quality assurance procedures with appropriate
  5. and accurate documentation
  6. Perform laboratory procedures for specimen handling, storage processing, and testing for
  7. HPV in accordance with standards set forth in the approved Laboratory procedures
  8. manual
  9. Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to
  10. ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
  11. Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
  12. Submit all documentation for supervisory review in a timely manner
  13. Report and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol
  14. Ensure that adequate supply levels are maintained in a cost-effective manner
  15. Promptly recognize and resolve issues relating to laboratory services and when
  16. appropriate bring the problems/ issues to the attention of the study coordinator
  17. Adhere to laboratory safety and infection control practices
  18. Maintain confidentiality of patient/ medical information
  19. Perform other duties as directed by the study coordinator or study Investigator(s)

Required Qualifications and Experiences

  1. A Minimum of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
  2. Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologist Board
  3. Experience in performing ELISA technology
  4. Experience in research

Other Required Skills

  1. Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel; data entry experience preferred
  2. Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment
  3. Strong communication and teamwork skills
  4. Must be keen and attentive to details, have the ability to follow procedures carefully and
  5. good organizational skills
  6. Fluent in English
  7. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  8. Must be willing to work long hours to meet deadlines
