Kanze Dena Reveals Reasons Behind The Rising Cost Of Living In Kenya

She attributed the increasing prices of food, fuel, gas, and other commodities to external factors: the Russia-Ukraine crisis and global inflation. She said that the high cost of living is not only affecting Kenyans but also the whole world.

Kanze Dena stated that Kenyan citizens can solve food insecurity by embracing irrigated farming as a massive percentage of the country s affected by drought and stop over-relying on rain for agriculture.

"The rising cost of living is not exclusive to Kenya; it is a global phenomenon fueled by numerous external factors, among them the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war which has led to a rise in the global price of petroleum, which is a key factor of production," Dena stated.

During the interview on Radio Kaya, Kenyans questioned the statehouse spokesperson on the increasing public debt. She answered by saying the government is being forced to borrow more to meet demands and expectations from members of the public.

"The growing public debt is largely driven by rising national demands starting with the growing population. Let's take the devolved structure of government, for instance, which created 47 new governments complete with expanded leadership levels; all these are cost centers," she said.

Kanze said that the coastal people have to find better ways of dealing with food shortages and adopt farming techniques that will enhance food security in their area as they are affected by severe food shortages.

She advised them to take advantage of the government’s investments in the blue economy to improve their lives as there is a great focus on the blue economy programs.
