The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has refuted claims on opening the Nairobi Expressway to public use.

KeNHA's Remarks On The Start Of Operations On The Nairobi Expressway

The KeNHA said that test runs on the road have not yet begun since the project is not complete and motorists are yet to be allowed to use it.

The Nairobi Expressway is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy project which the government announced will be in use by March, but no particular date was given.

According to the claims, test runs on the country’s top road project had begun and continued for several days. The claims caused uncertainty among the citizens as it is to be officially opened by the president.

KeNHA stated that an official statement will be given with directions on the test run and the correct pricing model once the project is completed.

"As the contractor nears completion, and in preparation for the eventual opening of the road to the public, there will be guided trials to test the system’s operations that has been installed," KeNHA noted.

The agency further said that the project aimed to reduce congestion in the city and cut on the time spent by people on the road.

"Being a key road that is expected to decongest the city, the authority shall inform the public in advance but at an appropriate time on arrangements to open the road to the public," KeNHA added.

The grand Nairobi Expressway is expected to be open to the public soon, and citizens are eager to see operations on the road. Most of the construction work has been done with signages erected to guide motorists.
