'KRA is after me' – Machakos Governor Mutua now claims.
Governor Alfred Mutua at a past interview

Speaking at an interview in a local media station, when he was answering a question on the recent dispute between KRA and Keroche Breweries, the Governor said that KRA was not only going for the local brewery but it was also targeting him.

“KRA is hounding me in my businesses, I am telling you Keroche is not the only one suffering from KRA,” the governor said.

The Governor further went on to state that he had received a threatening letter that if he doesn’t pay the money he would land into trouble.

I have been given a letter that I have to pay so much money, otherwise I will get in trouble, I am in trouble.” Lamented the governor

The Governor added that the agency had reached to his suppliers to bar them from providing services to the Governor until he pays his taxes.

KRA has written to people who provide me services in my businesses and told them ‘Until Mutua’s companies have paid” Mutua further stated.

Speaking at the same interview, Mutua dismissed Deputy President William Ruto’s Claims that the move by KRA against Keroche was a political move adding that everyone was a victim of KRA’s wrath regardless of the political formation the person.

I have had to enter a negotiation with KRA about a payment plan, and I am not alone. Everyone who is running a business in this country has entered a negotiation phase with KRA, so it is not targeting anybody The DP should not start saying that KRA is hounding Keroche because of politics just because Tabitha Karanja has joined UDA, we have to pay taxes!” the governor added.

On Monday however, KRA and Keroche breweries signed a deal that would see the brewery pay ksh.957 million for 2years  starting January 2022.
