Man To Face Life Imprisonment For Defiling Minor

On the morning of November 26, 2020, Cliphas Otieno was found defiling the minor at Anindo village in Awendo Sub County.

He was arrested and charged with defilement under Section 8 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act a few days later.

Otieno had denied two counts of defilement and participating in an indecent act with a child, according to court documents.

After failing to raise the required bond of Sh100,000 with a guarantee of the same amount, he has been detained.

After hearing the evidence, Rongo Senior Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat charged Otieno with a severe punishment on Monday.

In a separate incident, a church leader in Gatundu South is accused of impregnating a mentally ill 14-year-old girl, who was in a special school.

The girl's family wants the suspect to be imprisoned for life and fear that the girl may be forced to drop out of school to care for her three-month-old pregnancy.

According to her family, a local church elder who also happens to be the leader of the Kikuyu Council of Elders in the area impregnated the mentally ill girl.

The man is said to have asked the girl's destitute family to adopt and educate her since he has the financial means and inclination to help them improve their living conditions.

"My daughter is suffering from a mental challenge. The man requested to have my daughter to accord her a better life as I have been struggling and I have another son in school. It's sad that instead of giving her a better life as he had promised, he has ended up impregnating her," the girl's mother regretted.

The old man, according to the minor, has been tricking her with sweets, sodas, and cakes before sleeping with her at his shop and at home.

According to the victim, the man allegedly gave him family planning pills in order to lure her into sexual encounters so as to not result in a pregnancy.

The doctor's report indicates that she has been raped several times.

Gatundu police said they had caught the suspect and that he was being kept for questioning before being tried in court on various accusations, including impregnating a child.
