The suspect is being detained as police conduct an investigation into the murder and attempted arson as allowed by Makadara law courts Chief Magistrate.

The driver will be in police custody for 14 days as the police continue with their inquiries into the death of his girlfriend, with whom he had been living with.

According to Francis Milliah, a Kayole Sub County DCI Officer, the suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday night.

According to preliminary findings, the victim may have been murdered at their home near Kayole intersection on Kangundo Road a few days ago.

It is believed that the Mwiki Matatu Sacco driver may have then vanished after committing the crime.

On Wednesday morning, the driver went to their fourth-floor house and set it on fire, then left once more.

Neighbors noticed smoke coming from the residence and alerted the police.

“Police officers visited the scene and found the house locked. Entry was gained by breaking the door and the fire was put out. Inside the bedroom the decomposing body of the woman was found lying on bed with blood stains on the mouth and ears,” an officer said.

According to police, the man may have intentionally set the house on fire to make it appear as though the death was caused by the fire.

The body was moved to the mortuary where it will wait for an autopsy and identification.
