Mwenda Mbijiwe's Family Reacts to Raila's Statement on their Kin Disappearance

Raila was speaking during an interview with Weru TV in Meru County when he was asked to issue a statement on Mbijiwe's disappearance.

Odinga, who seemed to have misunderstood the question, spoke about the late Cabinet Minister Gilbert M'Mbijiwe Kabere, who died in 2017.

His statement left the audience confused with most thinking that he alleged Mwenda, who has been missing for six months, had died.

"Mzee Mbijiwe ndiye alikua rafiki yangu na kwa hivyo mimi niliskia vibaya sana alipoaaga na hio ni kitu kidogo kwa serekali. Nitaongea na Rais Uhuru ili aweze kusaidia.

"(Mzee Mbijiwe was a very good friend of mine and so I felt really bad when he passed on...I will talk to President Uhuru Kenyatta so that he can offer his help)."

While issuing the statement, Mjibiwe’s family weighed in on the matter, agreeing that Odinga may have not understood the question and was talking about the late Gilbert Mbijiwe Kabere.

"Odinga and Kabere were friends. He met my brother Mbijiwe through Kabere. I'm not sure but that is what we see," Tamara Mbijiwe, the sister stated.

Mwenda went missing under mysterious circumstances on Saturday, June 12. Before his disappearance, the TV analyst was on his way to Meru County, to visit a sick relative.
