A Nigerian Student who managed to flee from the war in Ukraine has died barely two weeks after returning home.

The 22-year-old student was in his final year of a medicine course in Ukraine was due to graduate in the next year.

According to the boy’s father, Habibu Modaci, the boy had complained of discomfort and loss of appetite was rushed to a hospital, but the cause of his death is yet to be confirmed.

“Had it been he died in Ukraine, so many things would be said about him, that he was either killed by the Russian bombardment or had an accident or even accidentally shot and killed by the Ukrainian Army,” the student’s father said?

The student had returned to their hometown for the first time in three years since he went to study in Ukraine.

Mr. Modaci said that his son had narrated the horrors of the war and the scramble to flee Ukraine.

The Nigerian government has evacuated more than 1000 of its students who had gone to Ukraine, but some are still trapped in Kherson, a city in Ukraine.

Geoffrey Onyeama, the Nigerian foreign affairs minister, noted that around 5,600 Nigerian students in Ukraine and an estimated 8,000 Nigerian citizens in the country before the war began.

Ukraine has been under attack by the Russian government since last month. Russia’s brutality on Ukraine continues to rise as cities are attacked and buildings set ablaze by Russian shelling.
