Petroleum Cabinet Secretary John Munyes has resigned from the position to contest for a political seat in the upcoming August General election.

Munyes, who is seeking to be the next Governor for Turkana County, announced his resignation on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday, February 9th deadline for civil servants eyeing political seats to step aside from public office.

He becomes the second Cabinet Secretary to step aside after Devolution Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter who stepped aside on Tuesday. Keter is seeking to be the next Governor for Kericho County.

A number of Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries, and Public Servants are expected to resign from their positions and enter the political arena between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Elections Act stipulates that public servants seeking political seats must resign at least six months before the date for the General Elections.
