The more than 40 candidates are from Dibuoro Secondary school in Alego/Usonga sub-county. The candidates were arrested together with 9 other people and are currently under police custody over the alleged exam malpractices.

According to a report by Alego/Usonga Sub-county police commander Benedict Mwangangi, some candidates were also found in possession of four mobile phones which contained leakages of chemistry paper that they would sit for.

Also, in the same operation, the school’s principal, a chemistry teacher and two laboratory technicians were arrested and taken to Siaya police Station to record a statement with the police.

We have detained 51 people including students who were allegedly caught engaging in exams malpractices at Diburo school in Usonga,” Mwangangi said.

According to Mwangangi, one of the confiscated phones contained a WhatsApp group, that had the 42 students from the same school in it. Also, at firts the police were able to arrest 22 students then after seeing the WhatsApp Group they decided to arrest the 20 more students to record a statement with the police.

We had cornered some 22 whom we established were notorious and detailed reports made us trace other 20 students who were equally members of the WhatsApp group,” Mwangangi added.

On his part, Saya sub county Deputy County commissioner Enock Nyarango confirmed that the students will spent the rest of the weekend in police custody so as to help in investigations.

The students and their accomplices will be our property over weekend where they shall be subjected to thorough investigations,” Nyarago stated.

This comes barely hours after a similar case happened in Makueni county where police arrested Several students and exam invigilator on exam irregularity allegations.
