Martha Koome Takes Charge After Office Laxity Accusations

On Friday, 4th Chief Justice Martha Koome cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta against interfering with the Judiciary and disrespecting the rule of law.

CJ Koome issued a statement a few hours after she had attended the swearing-in of 34 judges at State House, Nairobi.

This was after President Uhuru Kenyatta had appointed 34 judges and rejected 6 nominees on Thursday 3rd despite their approval by the Judicial service commission {JSC}.

However, Koome argued that she did take part in the selection of the 34 judges and urged President Kenyatta to appoint the six judges who he left out and accused of having integrity issues.

The judges who were dropped from the race include: Weldon Korir, Aggrey Muchelule, Evans Kiago, Judith Omange, George Odunga, and Joel Ngugi

Judge Joel Ngugi and George Odunga were among the five judges who took part in the nullification of BBI as unconstitutional.
