Reports indicate that a fight between the two groups of students culminated in the burning of one of the dormitories of the Abrar Boys Secondary School located a few kilometers from Eldoret town.

According to the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga Ali, students were fighting over the school management’s treatment of some of them.

‘The students were not happy with the treatment in school and they caused havoc. This led to the burning of a school dormitory,” Ali said in a phone interview.

“No injuries were reported,” he added.

Following the incident, the board of management of the school held an emergency meeting and resolved that students be sent home.

They will now be required to report back to school at a date that will be communicated later by the school management.

“The board sat and directed that the school be closed. Students have been sent home and will be allowed back with their parents in a day the board will decide,” noted the Uasin Gishu County Police boss.

The police have now launched a probe into the cause of the fight between the said two factions of students at the private school that admits only Muslim students.

This is not the first time that two factions of students have clashed at the school.

A source privy to happenings at the school who sought anonymity claims there has been a push and pull between Muslim students from the Coast region ad those from upcountry.

One of the groups accuses the school management of favoring the other. Efforts to speak to the school's board of management hit a snag after they declined to speak to the press.
