Three Forests Catch Fire in Nakuru County

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has raised concern over increased forest fires across Nakuru county as three forests catch fire.

In a statement on Sunday, the governor said there are raging fires in Menengai Crater Forest (Bahati), Eburru Forest (Gilgil), and Koibatek Forest in the Rongai sub-county.

"We are working with Kenya Forest Service and National Government agencies to contain the fires," Governor Kinyanjui said, explaining that winds had, however, made the containment difficult.

"At Menengai Crater Forest, we have dispatched fire engines, water tankers, and graders to make fire breaks. This is to prevent the fire from spreading into farms and homes," he added.

The governor also assured the residents that his government is doing everything possible to contain the fires.

"I appeal to Nakuru residents to exercise caution and avoid lighting outdoor fires that can easily turn catastrophic," he urged the residents.
